Guiding Principles

The Ocean City School District’s Mission is Committed to Excellence. Goal: To design, develop and implement an “Ocean City School District moving forward and preserving our core values and traditions” Plan to Return to School (RTS Plan) Objective: To develop a living document, guided by constantly evolving expert advice about how best to keep our students, staff and other stakeholders safe from the spread of COVID-19. Objective: To build the foundation of our RTS Plan upon the OCSD mission, Committed to Excellence, and the Strategic Plan. Objective: To map out our new normal, which includes following safety guidelines, deploying health protection resources in our school, ensuring a continuity of operations, and aligning them with the necessary educational supports. Objective: To give stakeholders a voice in developing this comprehensive and fluid RTS Plan. Objective: To provide a high quality educational program for our students, to establish conditions for learning as we continue to meet the diverse needs of our learners and to provide a continuity of online and onsite learning. Objective: To be agile and flexible in our work processes and procedures to respond to the changing conditions set by Cape May County Education Office, NJDOE, NJDOH, CDC, and the Governor. Guiding Principles Health and Safety: Focus on safety is the OCSD’s top priority. Follow CDC, New Jersey Department of Health and Cape May County Health Department public health guidelines. Students as the Center: Sustain students’ interests and motivation. Accountability in grading and attendance. Adapt teaching to fit the learning environment for all students. Social and Emotional Wellness: Provide social emotional learning and resources to support student mental health. Build positive social interactions. Equity and Access: Embrace diverse students and families. Account for varying resources and supports at home.
