Dr. Jamison Meets With Seantor Booker & Senator Menendez
OCEAN CITY, NJ (September 27, 2018) – On Tuesday, OCHS Principal Dr. Matthew Jamison met with U.S. Senator Booker and U.S. Senator Bob Menendez and was congratulated on being named New Jersey’s Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Senator Menendez and Principal Jamison discussed how Jamison raised the education standards within the Ocean City School District, as well federal funding and legislation to help public schools across New Jersey.
“What Principal Jamison has done in implementing professional learning communities, revising standards and establishing common sense assessments is inspiring,” said Sen. Menendez. “I was elected to the Union City Board of Education when I was 20 and learned quickly what qualities made an excellent principal, and Principal Jamison embodies the commitment to education that every public school student deserves. I believe we must honor and thank individuals like Dr. Jamison because they are an essential part of what makes New Jersey one of the best states to send a child to public school, and we want to keep it that way.”
Senator Booker and Principal Jamison discussed the need for alternative paths for college and career readiness as well as additional funding for Career Technical Educational (CTE) programs along with advocating for the full funding of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
“It was an honor and pleasure representing Ocean City High School and the Ocean City School District in meetings with our senators: Sen Booker and Sen Menendez,” said Dr. Jamison. “Both senators expressed their appreciation for the work that we do and both are staunch supporters for public education and funding for the ESSA.”
As NJ State Principal of the Year, Dr. Jamison’s plans to continue growing the professional learning communities to foster collaborative learning and organization among teachers, revising standards of education among the faculty, and establishing common sense assessments. Dr. Jamison will also continue to develop the expansion of dual and AP credit opportunities for students and increasing career mentoring.
