October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.
The School District and the OCPTA are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with many activities throughout this month. In particular, during the Week of Respect, October 7th – 11th, many of each day will have a specific focus with the goal to support this Awareness and this Cause.
The Primary School is holding a “Pink Day” on Friday, October 11th to support and raise money for breast cancer. The Intermediate School will have a “Jean Day – Pink Day” on October 16th to also support and raise money for breast cancer awareness.
At the High School, they too are having Pink Activities. There will be a Pink Day anda Breast Cancer Awareness Sticker Day in which wear one, pass one and awareness on to others. Look for Positively Pink Poster Board postings in which students and staff will be asked to write positive messages of courage, hope and/or a name of a survivor on a pink ribbon to place on a bulletin board. Gilda’s Club will also hold meetings this month with a focus on breast cancer and guest speakers. And who doesn’t love a PinkPumpkin as there will be the opportunity to paint and decorate pumpkins for this Cause.
Speaking of love – who also doesn’t love Pink Lemonade? Good news is that our Food Service Department will be featuring this delicious drink during lunch, a date to be determined.
Our Athletic Department will feature Breast Cancer Awareness support by dedicating at least one home game with wearing Pink and some will be wearing pink all month long. Some of the games will also be dedicated to a specific Pink Warrior!
The “We Rock” Campaign, major supporters of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will also make pink rocks/ breast cancer awareness themes.
