Weekly Athletic Update 3/10/21

March 10, 2021 - Good morning Raider Nation! The weather outside yesterday may have been unseasonably warm, but the atmosphere at the Mainland Corral Pool was even hotter as the Red Raider Boys Swim team invaded the Mustang pool in a big boys swim meet.  Earlier in the season, the Red Raiders defeated the Mustangs at home, beating Mainland for the first time in 28 years…Mainland was seeking revenge.  Coach McGrath and Conover’s boys met the test, defeating Mainland by a score of 93-77.

Our boys entered the last race needing to win the 400 Free Relay to clinch the victory and Pat Armstrong, Matthew Woodside, Dolan Grisbaum, and Steve Gooden sealed the win.  Strong performances were seen across the board with many personal bests.  The Red Raiders took many firsts, but their depth in the outer lanes helped them succeed.  With this victory, the 9th Street Bridge will be lit up in red tonight to honor the boys!!  The boys’ lone loss this year was to the team currently ranked #4 in the state.  Please see the winning times below:

The Red Raider Girls Swim Team, ranked recently 13th in the State, faced the #6 team in the state yesterday.  Great times were posted by our girls, but unfortunately they were not good enough to beat the highly ranked Mustangs.  Alex Antonov took our lone first place.  Our girls have only been defeated by State Top 10 teams.
