Weekly Athletic Update 4/1/21

April 1, 2021 - Good morning Raider Nation! And welcome to Opening Day…not only for Major League Baseball fans…but for the official first day of practice for most of our spring sports. Nearly 375 days ago, our school was shut down and the hope for our spring seasons slipped away…but we are back! The spring season that was totally lost last year, is now beginning a new one and it is the hope of the state (and all) that it can be as near to normal as possible.

Next week is loaded with scrimmages, the crew team is off and rowing at Lake Lenape, and the weather looks like…well, looks like spring in OC, but sunshine and being outside is awesome. As the staff moves into our spring break I wanted to thank all that have made our sports program not only successful so far this year, but even able to run. From administration and board of education to all staff, coaches to players/families…thank you. Another big thank you to our school nurses and athletic trainers for all they have done, literally since the NJSIAA allowed practices back in July. And, last but not least, Helen for keeping me organized (and so much more!) and our teams on time and at their destinations. Thank you all!

Last night, I am happy to say was another great night for our wrestling program.  On the heals of a thrilling, come from behind, outdoor meet on Saturday (where they found themselves down 33-0 and pulled out the victory in the last bout), we defeated powerhouse Buena, on Senior Night, by a score of 60-15!  Our three seniors Nick Bell, Joey Garcia and Matt Christy provided 18 of those 60 points.  Pins by Liam Cupit, Aiden Leypoldt, Jake Wilson, and Ryan Callahan’s victory after being down 1-0 with seconds to go, propelled the Red Raiders to victory.

Once again, thank you for your support and enjoy and well-deserved spring break!
