Education and mental health are both important to Ms. O’Brien. As a Rowan University graduate in Sociology and Masters of Social Work graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. O’Brien entered the field of Social Work because it’s geared towards helping others.
“I strive to be a strong advocate for people and to help them achieve the best versions of themselves”, she says. Ms. O’Brien started working in Social Work in 2007. Then became a Licensed Social Worker in 2011 and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2020. She has worked as an in-home therapist, school counselor and outpatient therapist as a licensed professional.
She started at Ocean City High School in November of 2021. She says, "I love my job because I love helping people. I also love that it is fast-paced and no day is the same. The faculty, staff, and administration have been very kind and welcoming. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the students and their families.”
The role of Mental Health Counselor is new to Ms. O’Brien since coming to OCHS. “It was a unique position to find” she says, “because it combined education and mental health, both of which are very important to me.”
