Monthly Staff Spotlight

November

Joyce has worked for Ocean City School District for 41 years. She started back in 1971 and has worked 41 years as a Support Staff member in several different capacities before retiring in 2012. During those 41 years, she also served as President of OCESSA (Ocean City Support Staff Association) for 8 years. Since her retirement 10 years ago, Joyce has continued to work as a substitute for the District at both the Primary School and Intermediate School. You will always see Joyce engaging with the students and making them feel important and special, the thing she enjoys most about working here. Joyce graduated from Ocean City High School and she has been a very active member in the community over the years. She was instrumental in working to get a traffic light installed at 5th and West Avenue for the safety of the children and ironically, it was put in place on the day she retired. Joyce has vacationed in Mexico with her family, and enjoys spending time with them as much as possible, especially with her great-grandson, Nathan.

Chris Nunan

CHRIS NUNAN
4th & 5th Grade Teacher

Mr. Nunan is in his eighteenth year as a teacher in the Ocean City School District. He taught Language Arts and Social Studies in fourth grade and Math and Science in fifth grade. Mr. Nunan was also a substitute teacher in kindergarten through high school for his first year in the district. Prior to coming to Ocean City, he taught in the Philadelphia School District, the Cartwright School District in Phoenix, Arizona, and was a substitute teacher on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation in Hoopa, CA. Mr. Nunan loves the positive and enduring relationships that are developed with students, colleagues, and the community. But most importantly, he loves watching our students develop and blossom socially, emotionally, and academically.

Mr. Nunan enjoys spending his free time with his family, especially his wife, Cindy. They have a daughter, Nicole who was a 2017 graduate of OCHS and a 2021 graduate of LaSalle University. He enjoys swimming, surfing, and reading to relax. On good surf days you can find Mr. Nunan in the Strathmere surf at sunrise with a few good friends and sometimes a dolphin or two.

SEPTEMBER

James Nicholas McClellan, Sr. , fondly referred to as “Mr. Nick”, has been working at the intermediate school for 19 years. He started as our evening custodian, moved to day shift, and earlier this year became our head custodian.

Before coming to OCIS, he worked in the casinos in Atlantic City as a slot cashier and doing security work. Mr. Nick is married to his wife, Melissa, and they have 3 sons, Nick, Jr. 24, Jamal 16, and Jamir 7. As a family, they enjoy taking cruises for vacations and spending time together doing various types of activities.

You will often find Mr. Nick engaging with the students and staff asking how they are doing and how their day is going. He is quick to lend a helping hand and is a positive role model to our students.
