Mrs. Lanterman has been teaching reading at OCIS for almost seventeen years. Prior to working at OCIS, she was a special education teacher at the Upper Township Elementary and Primary Schools. Mrs Lanterman lives in Sea Isle with her husband, Chris. They enjoy walks around the island, boat rides, and entertaining family and friends. They also like exploring different hiking trails and traveling to both new and familiar places. Last summer, they visited Ireland, where Mrs Lanterman lived until the age of ten, and they ventured to Malta in the Mediterranean. When Mrs. Lanterman is not tutoring in the summer, you can usually catch her reading on the beach.

As a reading teacher, she enjoys working with students from various grade levels and in small groups. She feels fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the same students for a few years which allows her to get to know them really well. Mrs. Lanterman finds it very rewarding to help students grow as readers, see their self-confidence improve, and assist them in finding books they may enjoy. She also said the wonderful staff at OCIS makes it a great place to work!

Karyn Daily

KARYN DAILY
4th through 8th Grade Spanish Teacher

Mrs. Daily is currently in her tenth year teaching Spanish at OCIS. She teaches 4th through 8th grade Spanish language and culture. Previously, she taught 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th graders in Cherry Hill and Somers Point. Karyn loves traveling to Spanish-speaking countries and immersing herself in the language and culture. She is slowly but surely checking countries off her list!

Mrs. Daily's family enjoys going to the beach year round. Lately, her husband, Brian, 6th grade daughter, Maeve, and her two dogs, Fiona and puppy Minnie, have been enjoying going to dog beaches. Mrs. Daily also enjoy gardening, painting, upcycling furniture and home goods, and home improvement projects.

She enjoys teaching and interacting with students of varying ages at the middle school level. It’s really rewarding for her to be a part of each student’s growth during their five years at OCIS. Karyn appreciates that from year to year she can continue to build teacher-student relationships. It’s a very cool journey to be a part of! Also, she loves teaching Spanish language and culture. Mrs. Daily has wanted to do so since studying abroad at The University of Valencia in Spain.

NOVEMBER

Joyce has worked for Ocean City School District for 41 years. She started back in 1971 and has worked 41 years as a Support Staff member in several different capacities before retiring in 2012. During those 41 years, she also served as President of OCESSA (Ocean City Support Staff Association) for 8 years. Since her retirement 10 years ago, Joyce has continued to work as a substitute for the District at both the Primary School and Intermediate School. You will always see Joyce engaging with the students and making them feel important and special, the thing she enjoys most about working here. Joyce graduated from Ocean City High School and she has been a very active member in the community over the years. She was instrumental in working to get a traffic light installed at 5th and West Avenue for the safety of the children and ironically, it was put in place on the day she retired. Joyce has vacationed in Mexico with her family, and enjoys spending time with them as much as possible, especially with her great-grandson, Nathan.
